The
shape of a young man's life is described through encounters in three
different ages; with a fast talking trickster at age 9, with a hell-raising
uncle at age 14, and with the woman of his adolescent dreams, only
now his is 23 and she is 37. The Wilgus Storis was made over 10
years with 2 of the prize-winning stories released independently.
Featuring performances by non-professional and professional actors,
including Ned Beatty, these rich stories illuminate inner depths
of humor, love, and loss.
Tidbit:
William Johnson plays Wilgus Collier at 9 and 14 in the first two
segments of the film. The sequences were shot 3 years apart.
Bio:
Andrew Garrison was born and raised in Central Florida. He worked
as a documentary filmmaker for many years with Appalshop, the remowned
rural media arts center in Eastern Kentucky, and with the political
media collective he helped found in Dayton, Ohio. He has earned
his living from his films and from his freelance work as a director
of photography and as a location mixer/recordist. Garrison is a
current Guggenheim Fellow, as well as the recipient of both an AFI
Independent Fellowship and a NEA Individual Media Fellowship. He
currently lives and works in Auustin, Texas, and teaches production
at the University of Texas.
