Screening:
Friday, April 28, 4:15 PM, Charles 1
Synopsis:
The subject of the critically acclaimed HBO mini-series The Corner
(an episode of which is also included in the Maryland Film Festival
2000), the world of the inner city drug trade has been both glamorized
and demonized by various media outlets. Much like The Corner, Todd
R. Cole's documentary Blue Collar breaks through this veneer and
the hype-but he allows the story to be told by the individuals who
live it. Shot entirely in Baltimore, the documentary follows several
young men through their lives' trials and tribulations as they work
to put clothes on their backs and food on their tables. Their stories
place the viewer in a front row seat to a world seldom seen and
allow him to understand how these young men deal with the realities
of urban life the only way they know how.
Tidbit:
"Reno lets us know that Dennis will only talk to us if we do him
a small favor. Now little did I know this small favor had something
to do with a bag of heroin. Well, to be a bit more honest, this
small favor was a bag of heroin. We swing the truck down an alley
a block or so from Edmenson and Fulton Avenues-not exactly a spot
where one goes to pick up cotton candy or Pokemon cards." -Todd
R. Cole
Bio:
Originally from Baltimore, Todd R. Cole currently resides in L.A.
where he is developing projects for his production company, Black
